Just like magic TAQO: Taquos & Tequila appeared on Friday to bring authentic Mexican cuisine and a huge selection of tequila to Grand Circus Park for lunch and dinner, seven days/week. General manager Cesar Ochoa told Eater Detroit that he purposefully kept the news quiet, but a new sign, banners, and enthusiastic welcomes from hostesses Destiny and Shakur indicate to the neighborhood that they are open and ready for business.
The interior is bright and casual, with three floors (the third floor will open soon) and two full-service bars. The hostesses said they are expecting heavy traffic from tonight's baseball game, and those without tickets can watch the game on one of the restaurant's large TV's.
As for food, chips, salsa, and guac are made in house daily. Head chef Eduardo Trevino is prioritizing locally-sourced ingredients and the menu includes both traditional and innovative takes on Mexican cuisine. Seafood is a focus, but when it comes to drinks it's all about the tequila. They supposedly carry over 200 options, the largest selection in Metro Detroit according to a press release. Beer, wine, and other cocktails are also available, and they use no prepared mixes.
Ochoa said that they are planning a Grand Opening celebration with a Mariachi band and more very soon, but for now they are open Monday-Sunday from 11:00 a.m. to midnight. Happy Hour is from 3:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. Monday through Friday, with $4 house margaritas and $3 drafts.
