Plenty of bars are preparing for epic St. Patty's Day celebrations this weekend and Monday, but Thomas Magee's Sporting House Whiskey Bar in Eastern Market is gaining attention for their "eggs and kegs" breakfast, just one way they're setting themselves apart from the crowd.
Thomas Mageee's, owned by Erik Olson, is fast gaining a reputation as a different kind of business amongst a growing community of craft cocktail and craft beer specialty bars in the city, more along the lines of the old school dive bars with crowds of loyal locals lining the bar on a regular basis.
Their eggs and kegs party is starting early, and in the Tell Us Detroit story Olson says they're bringing in the beer, the bagpipers, and the food to get the party started, "We're saying 'crack the eggs, and crack the kegs,' and if you want an early start, we'll be open".
The party starts at 7:00 a.m. on Monday, featuring corned beef hash and eggs with beer specials until 10:00 a.m. Beer will be $1 at 7:00 a.m., and will increase by a dollar per hour until 10:00 a.m.
