Scotch enthusiasts who missed out on the Glenfiddich tasting two weeks ago have another shot to learn the finer points of whisky, while sipping some 200 choice single malt and blended scotches at tonight's Whisky Experience in St. Clair Shores.

Held at the Barrister Garden Banquet Center, proceeds from the tasting go to support the Luella M. Harden Foundation. Tickets are $130 to $160 and include appetizers, drinks, and presentations.

On the increasing presence of craft distilleries, Monkey Shoulder brand ambassador Freddy May, says he sees the craft distilling industry moving in a similar direction to craft beer, just a decade or so behind. "The number of craft distilleries is following pretty much the exact same curve that the craft brewers did from fifteen years ago," he says, attributing the increased interest to the growing locavore movement.

"I think people are more aware of what they're eating and drinking these days and whether many of these craft spirits are better produced or not I think is down to the individual. There's certainly some of them are much better than others," he adds.

Local distiller Rufino Valentine of Valentine Vodka as well as Dan Tullio of Canadian Club will also be at the event.
