On Tuesday, General Motors plowed over a 129-year-old building in Rivertown, formerly home to the German restaurant Schweizer's. According to Curbed Detroit, GM subsidiary Riverfront Holdings purchased the building earlier this year. The demolition is presumably a move to make way for proposed changes to I-375, providing easier access to the RiverWalk.
Last year, Metro Times' Michael Jackman provided a historical window into Schweizer's past with some recipes circa 1962—the restaurant's 100-year anniversary.
