On Sunday, Eater somewhat prematurely announced that Selden Standard would open this Friday, based on a reliable tip and post from The Hungry Dudes. On Monday, our reporting was disputed on another local blog. Thankfully, Sylvia Rector of The Detroit Free Press settled the debate in an exclusive interview with chef and co-owner Andy Hollyday that confirms the highly anticipated restaurant is scheduled to open sometime this weekend.
Taking a tour of the restaurant, Rector describes the refined look of the newly renovated space—formerly home to a dry cleaners:
The handsome exterior, finished in natural wood planks, and dark gray brick, hints at the interior's black, white and cedar dining room and bar-a sleekly urban, rustic space that also complements chef and co-owner Andy Hollyday's accessible New American culinary style.
Hollyday tells Rector the opening menu will consist of small plates that are "hearty and seasonal but also balanced with lighter dishes." Sneak peeks of the soft opening menu were posted via Instagram on Sunday. The chef and his team will be working out the kinks during multiple private events this week.
