Six Local Businesses Are Planning Expanded Food Services

Cafe Con Leche will soon join the legions of cafes that roast beans in-house.

Earlier this week NEIdeas announced the winners of it's $10K Challenge. The non-profit awarded thirty small business owners in Detroit a total of $300,000 grants. Here are six winners who plan to expand their food services for customers:

Old RedfordSweet Potato Sensations plans to purchase more equipment, add a cook station, and increased seating to add savory menu offerings.

Southwest—Café Con Leche will expand their products and begin roasting beans in-house by purchasing new equipment.

Boston Edison—Food Field, an urban farm, is going to open and operate a shipping-container café with indoor and outdoor seating.

Eastern MarketMootown Ice Cream & Dessert Shoppe will add an all-natural soda fountain service, more seating, and an electronic point-of-sale system.

North End—The Turkey Grill will use their funding to add a computerized point-of-sale system, new signage, and additional lighting and cooking equipment to improve visibility and service to customers.

Davison—Seabird Fresh Fish and Chicken will add healthier alternative to their menu by investing in a commercial oven, grill, and steamer as well as a cooler for stocking salads.
