Cafe D'Mongo's Speakeasy, Saturday At 10 PM

Welcome to Eater Scenes, where Eater photographers Michelle and Chris Gerard visit some of the city's great restaurants and bars to capture them at a certain, and very specific, point in the day. Here is a look at Café D’Mongo’s Speakeasy on a recent October evening.

Café D'Mongo's Speakeasy is one of those legendary Detroit cocktail habitats. For a longtime now it has been a favorite haunt for stars like director Quentin Tarantino and actor Ryan Gosling, but the bar is something of a character in itself. The speakeasy features dim lighting, music-inspired décor, classic prohibition cocktails with a Detroit touch, and the ever-present proprietor Larry Mongo. D'Mongo's signature cocktail is the Detroit Brown made with Vernor's, whiskey, and bitters. Here are some moments captured by Eater Detroit's photographers on a typical Saturday around 10 p.m.
