Travel Blog Says Detroit's Food Scene Is Well Worth A Visit

Photography by Chris and Michelle Gerard

Travel blog The Delicious Day lists 16 reasons to visit Detroit in a recent post, and an awful lot of them have to do with food and Detroit's amazing restaurants. In short, 6 of the 16 are food related, including reasons #2: "Genuinely Fabulous Coffee Options", #4: "Visit the Farmers Market that Out Does All Farmers Markets", #5: "Best Middle Eastern Food on Earth", #6: "Participate in the Ongoing Coney Dog Battle", #7: "Best Bar Food that is Not At All Bar Food", and #9: "Eat at the Southern Mexican and Italian Restaurant".

Featured restaurants include Great Lakes Coffee, El Barzon, Slow's, Green Dot Stables, Pita Cafe (in Oak Park), Astro, Pinwheel Bakery, and Lafayette and American Coney Island. The blog isn't Detroit-based as one might expect, which is why people are so excited about it. The blog notes that "the media seems to love discussing all that is wrong with Detroit", and so this post is explicitly written from the angle of covering the notable good things, which is a refreshing change. It is, as Green Dot pointed out on their Facebook page, "a lovely look at our fair city".
