Foodtrucks, Late Night Eastern Market, and Michigan's Beer Culture

MEALS ON WHEELS-Food trucks probably won't save Michigan's economy, but that isn't stopping the Michigan Economic Development Corp. from giving almost $80,000 in grants to eight different food truck operations. Rick Haglund writes that "the program is designed to promote entrepreneurship and aid in community development" which certainly can't hurt. [MLive]

EASTERN MARKET-This Thursday night is the second annual Eastern Market After Dark, a part of the ongoing 2013 Detroit Design Festival. The event is free and open to the public from 7:00 p.m.-11:00 p.m., and it will feature Detroit food favorites like Guns + Butter, Supino's, Germack, and more. Also check out galleries, print shops, retail, and more. [Detroit Design Festival]

BEER HERE MICHIGAN-Last weekend the State Theatre in Kalamazoo featured lots of beer and the premiere of "The Michigan Beer Film", directed by Kevin Romeo, president and founder of Rhino Media Productions. Beer enthusiasts lined up around the block for the film's debut, and the 14 beers on tap just for the event. The documentary focuses on the rise of the brewery in the mitten state, and featured breweries like Kalamazoo's own Bell's, Sawyer's Greenbush, and Detroit's own Hatch winner Batch Brewing Co. No word yet on whether the film will make another MI appearance, but a dvd is in the works. [MLive]
