An important reminder for all Coney Island lovers: American Coney Island will host their third annual Coney Dog Eating Challenge from 5 to 6:30 p.m. today at 114. W. Lafayette.
In only ten minutes, contestants must consume as many mustard, onion, and chili laden Coney dogs for the grand prize of a coney champion belt, a year of free meals at American Coney Island, and other sponsored prizes. Last year's winner scarfed 10 1/2 coney dogs during the challenge. The competition raises funds for the Keros Family Scholarship Fund that offers scholarships for culinary students in the Detroit Public Schools' Golightly Career and Technical Center. Registration for the competition is $15 at (586)-219-0995. If competitive eating just isn't your thing, the observers are welcome with a suggested donation of $5.
