Messy elections, bankruptcy hearings and the like aside, at least the New York Times likes Detroit's art scene. Stories of the Detroit Mercantile Company — "a retro general store and event space...[with] carrot cake [and] beer from a nano-brewery" — and more in the "thriving, albeit complicated, local art scene" show would-be travelers that the Motor City has more than woe at the moment.
