Slow's Gets Top 10 Nod; The Baltimore Might Be Famous

The Baltimore

CORKTOWN — While we may be a few days behind on this news, it's still worth highlighting that Corktown's favorite / sometimes controversial barbecue bar, Slow's Bar BQ, just was named one of Food Network / Travel Channel personality Adam Richman's Top 10 Places to Eat In America. There's a lot of restaurants of America not included in that list (a lot), and yet it's still good to know that Detroit can still have nice things. [KitchenDaily]

EASTERN MARKET / CONANT GARDENS — In other 'Detroit Has Nice Things' news today, both the popular youngster Supino Pizzeria and longtime local classic Buddy's Pizza were named to the Thrillist List of the 33 Best Pizzas across the country. The Thrillist Network joined forces for local nominations, and it seems that our local Thrillist agrees with the general word of mouth in that Supino and Buddy's know what's what when it comes to a pizza. Kudos. [Thrillist]

DEARBORN HEIGHTS — After all the hubbub last week in the string of fast-food worker protests — not to mention the sale and future split of The Daily Beast and Newsweek — it might have been easy to miss this interesting Daily Beast piece on Moo Cluck Moo, a newish metro Detroit fast-food joint with a growing viral following. The conversation with the restaurant's owners details how they use a "business model that doesn't rest on paying as little as possible to people who may not have many options in this economy," and shows how the off-kilter establishment continues to win fans near and far with their happy workers and high-quality fast cuisine. [TheDailyBeast]

BIRMINGHAM — Because Bistro Joe's isn't enough for all those bistro-hungry Birminghamers, the new Strand establishment is here to help everybody out. The restaurant, which is taking over the space formerly occupied by glitzy, gauzy Italian eatery Zazio's on Woodward Ave., is planning a multi-room concept with extra entrances for celebrities and executives who want to avoid the common folk. They are set to open at the end of September. [Crain'sDetroit]

DOWNTOWN — This Friday could be the last time you can snag a spot in longtime downtown dive, the Baltimore, without swarms of AMC-fanatics clogging your barstool. The bar, used as a main set for the new AMC cop drama, Low Winter Sun, gets some initial exploratory treatment at Curbed Detroit today before next Sunday's premiere. We'll be checking out the bar as the show gets nearer, and will see just how many new fans the Baltimore uncovers as the Low Winter Sun Express picks up steam. [CurbedDetroit]
