Batch Brewing Looks Back to Move Forward

Batch Brewing Company

It's clear that speakeasy-style bars and nods to the prohibition era are increasingly popular in the region, but the Batch Brewing Company seems to be planning a more low-key approach. The 2013 Hatch Detroit finalist is garnering attention at the moment for not only their micro-brewed beer, but their community-focused concept that its supporters seem to love.

The Batch Brewing neighborhood bar/ brewery / eatery-of-the-future has been in the works for a while now. The current renovation of their future Corktown location on Michigan Ave is well underway — largely thanks to earlier crowd-funding efforts — but no opening date has been set beyond a vague "end of the year" promise.

The attractive building housed a speakeasy back in the day, and the redevelopment plan includes keeping the original tin ceilings and tile floors and polishing up the old bar. According to the Batch Brewing Facebook page, the bar "will eventually be put back into action, and you too will be able belly up where (quite probably) some pro ball players of yesteryear got swirvy." Still no word on what kind of speakeasy vibe the bar will carry with it.
