Inside Kuhnhenn Brewing; Pre-Jazz Fest Bar Crawl

State Bar and Grill

DOWNTOWN — The rapidly approaching Labor Day Weekend brings with it the annual Detroit Jazz Festival, but there's plenty of room to swing out this weekend in preparation. The 'Know Before You Go Jazz Fest Bar Tour,' brought to you by the fine folks at D:Hive, seeks to show would-be festival-goers where to go and what to see in the lead up to the festival. The vaguely-definied crawl, which starts at Cliff Bell's, starts Saturday night at 8 p.m., but we trust the D:Hivers to know which other jazz joints to check out downtown in their $5 journey. [-ED-]

CLINTON TWP. — Since she's clearly a big fan of local brewers (and who wouldn't be, really), it's only natural that Eat It Detroit's Nicole Rupersberg has some of the first pictures of Kuhnhenn Brewing Company's new facility in Clinton Township. The space looks pretty rough at the moment — they don't plan on opening until early 2014, at least — but the promise of a three-season beer garden, large-scale production and lots and lots of beer is enough to make us pretty thirsty. Check out the shots and get ready for more Kuhnhenn soon. [EatItDetroit]

DOWNTOWN — In case you aren't a jazzy bar crawler-type, the Brew Detroit beer tasting event at the nearby State Bar and Grill should help you out. Happening Saturday evening at nearly the same time as the Jazz Festival preview crawl at Cliff Bell's, the 89X-sponsored event will feature food from 24 Grille, D'Amato's, the Majestic Cafe and TAP at MGM Grand and beer from such area brewers as New Belgium Brewing, Brewery Vivant, Frankenmuth Brewery, Milking It Productions, Rochester Mills Beer Co., Detroit Beer Co, Great Lakes Brewing Co. and more. Granted, the per-ticket cost of the Brew Fest — $40 in advance, $45 at the door — is a bit steeper than the jazz bar crawl, but think of all the fantastic food-and-drink pairings you can make here. There's quite a lot. [FillmoreDetroit]
