EASTERN MARKET— Craig Lieckfelt, the young but upwardly-mobile local chef wunderkind behind the popup dinner craze Guns & Butter that drew in Anthony Bourdain during his recent tear through Detroit is said to be making moves toward acquiring a permanent space in the city for more regular culinary adventures. Eater Detroit sources who attended one of this month's sold-out popups at the Library Collective say Lieckfelt is living in Eastern Market and is looking to open an as-of-yet undefined restaurant concept in the next year. WEST VILLAGE While its neighbors toil away for quick summer openers (that means you, Detroit Vegan Soul), Craftwork is aiming for a decidedly different season for its grand opening gala. In a preview conversation with Nate Skid at Crain's Detroit, newly-announced executive chef Matt Dalton (formerly of Roast and Chen Chow Brasserie) indicated the space's November opening will keep all the "kids" in mind as they plan out the new menus. "Younger people are hip to the new trends," Dalton told Skid. Hopefully those hip food kids like being restricted to only dinner and brunch. [Crain's Detroit]
DOWNTOWN — Though it might feel like a bad time for celebrating in the D, our long local heat wave is finally fading tomorrow evening and Campus Martius is all set to look sharp for the second week of Faygo Movie Night. Besides the tasty local pop favorite, Good People Popcorn will be on hand for a night of James Bond action with the showing of "Skyfall." Maybe the symbolic collapse of the sky in the title is helpful for post-bankruptcy filing summer adventures? Sit outside and enjoy the cool evening air. You owe it to yourself. [-ED-]
RIVERTOWN-WAREHOUSE DISTRICT — While the national tech-media complex already thinks that "tech saved Detroit" (nice timing, ValleyWag), there's still a veritable boomlet of tech startups popping up everywhere these days, and the Detroit Startup Drinks at Kean's Marina tonight are proof. With an open call for open drinks with "Founders, Freelancers, and Moonlighters!" the cocktail hour (or two) should be a nice on the ground look at some of those techies that are supposedly saving the city. (We not doubting the city-saving powers of these people, we just find the timing of the writeup yesterday to be a little ironic). A pre-drink warning: to attend, you must be listed on the attending section of the party's Facebook event. Get your tech and drink on and start the weekend right, friends. [Facebook]
