While the rest of us were busy preparing for Bastille Day — or not, c'est la vie — a select crowd of friends-and-family types were privy to the soft opening of Corktown's latest eatery, Ottava Via.

There's been soft murmurings suggesting as much among the city's food community — Sylvia Rector's recent preview of the Dave Steinke-and Tim Springstead-helmed rustic Italian restaurant last week made it appear that a mere handful of city inspections were all that stood between the residents and frequenters of the city's oldest neighborhood and a mean plate of authentic bruschetta.

A recently-created Yelppage and the eager friends-and-family review on an earlier Eater Detroit post about the restaurant spurred enough interest in the restaurant that an Eater Detroit source sent a very helpful and revealing Instagram photo (posted above) from a Saturday evening soft opening.

The clock in the photo might be wrong, and it might not look particularly busy, but those waiters in the background seem to be rather perturbed with the photographer, which suggests a low-key but nevertheless high-profile soft open.

The date and details of the public grand opening are still up in the air, but stick around, and when and the fog parts enough for some clarity, we'll be on it.
