For anyone who has ever wondered just how close the Detroit Opera House is to nearby Comerica Park, it turns out that the answer is perhaps a bit closer than we thought.
To answer that probably not burning but still pending question, the Opera House is kicking off a summer series of rooftop parties this Friday at its newly-named "Coors Light Skydeck" (which, admittedly, seems to be a weird sponsorship choice for the rooftop of a world-renowned opera house).
The Skydeck offers a pretty substantial view of the city's theater district, and also provides a great wide-angle view of the Tigers' ballpark. (For perspective, just think of a Tigers game on TV, and imagine the distant view of the Detroit Athletic Club and the other downtown buildings in the distance. The Detroit Opera House is one of those buildings.)
The Skydeck season includes Friday and Saturday celebrations through the end of September, along with select Tigers' evening home games and occasional live musical performances in the wide open outdoor space. The verdict is still out on the deck's crowd or its drink specials, but maybe we've all been waiting for a rooftop party to ring in the summer properly.
