It's the 80th anniversary of Repeal Day, the glorious day when booze once again became legal as Prohibition was officially ended, and there are many celebrations taking place this evening.
One of those will take place at Cliff Bell's, and it sounds like a rollicking good time. From their website:
On December 5th, 1933 Utah became the final state to ratify the Blaine Act (the 21st Amendment) making the Volstead Act (the 18th amendment) unconstitutional. In other words: BREAK OUT THE HOOTCH! THE PROHIBITION OF ALCOHOL IS OVER!Come celebrate the 80th anniversary of the repeal of prohibition with us. You will be entertained by the Detroit Pleasure Society, a old timey swing band performing music dating all the way back to the 30?s. Period cocktails, drink and dinner specials will be served all night. Come dressed in flapper out-fits, zuit-suits or just get gussied up to the 9?s for a night of total debauchery.
Lushes LaMoan of the Detroit Dizzy Dames will be joining us at the stroke of midnight for a special burlesque treat and a special toast will be announced marking the official end to the Volstead Act.
That's right. Jazz, booze, costumes and burlesque. Nobody does it like Cliff Bell's.
