There are 12 days of Christmas, so here is the Eater Detroit Christmas Dining Guide, featuring 12 places open on either Christmas Eve or Christmas Day in Detroit and the surrounding area, in case eating out sounds like a better option than dried out ham and not enough wine at grandma's house.
It's Christmas, so pickings are already a little slim since many independent and smaller restaurants take a well-deserved break over the holidays. That leaves mostly hotel, casino, and of course upscale chain restaurants, though with Roast's unforeseen closure and Iridescence taking the holiday off this year, the list has dwindled a little more. It's still early, so many places haven't posted whether or not they'll be open one or both days, and specials and menus will be rolling out in the next week or so, but here's a list to start with.
Remember that this is an especially good time to make a reservation in advance, or at the very least call ahead as the last thing anyone wants is to show up hungry with the family in tow only to be turned away at the door.
