Fire At Roast!

Photo Twitter

Everything has the all clear now, but it was a social media frenzy this afternoon when it was announced that the Westin Book-Cadillac appeared to be on fire, and that it all started in the kitchen at Michael Symon's Roast.

Historic Detroit posted the initial information on their official Facebook page this afternoon:

A fire broke out about 3 p.m. today in #Detroit at the Westin Book-Cadillac. The blaze started in the kitchen at Michael Symon's Roast - Detroit restaurant. It does not appear that the fire damaged the hotel, but part of Roast looks toast. Stay tuned.

The Westin Book-Cadillac pretty much live-tweeted the whole event as it was happening:

Please retweet: small grease fire contained to the kitchen of roast producing mostly smoke. all guests and employees
...

That thought was finished just a moment later:

All are safe and re entering the building.

The hotel Tweeted at Historic Detroit a short while later that in fact all was well, it was just a minor incident:

@HistoricDET Please retweet: fire dept has checked & given all clear. Just minor smoke & water damage in Roast kitchen Thank you DFD and DPD.

No word on what that means for upcoming fancy holiday gatherings, as the restaurant and the hotel have yet to post anything to Facebook or Twitter regarding the status of the restaurant for tonight and the rest of the week. But they're not currently answering the phone, so they may be closed at least for tonight.
