Meet A Bartender: Joe Robinson

Cocktail Week 2013 is over, but it's always a good idea to learn more about the people making drinks in Detroit. Meet Joe Robinson, founding partner, coordinator, and drink specialist for Bailout Productions. According to their site, "Bailout Productions was founded in 2013 in an effort to bring quality food and drink to Detroit in a captivating way." They'll be opening Frontera (1420 Gratiot) in the near future, and for now they're doing popup events, private parties and cocktail consulting.

Joe is a master mixologist (his pedigree includes tending bar at Michael Symon's Roast) so what's his favorite drink to make for others at the moment? "It usually changes, but I'd say the drink I'm most proud of is the Phosphene Dream, named after a song from The Black Angels. It's Woodford Reserve Bourbon, Mindo Cocoa Tea infused Averna Amaro, Orange Flower Water, Mole Bitters and a Mezcal Rinsed Glass. It's a spirit forward whiskey drink with a smoky aroma and rich finish without being too sweet."

And as for what Joe's making for himself? "I taste plenty of cocktails through curating new drinks myself and tasting what others have to offer. So when I'm at home I usually just opt for a neat whiskey next to an IPA."
