Well look who had everyone fooled! Detroit Institute of Bagels had their soft opening today, with no Facebook announcement and little advanced warning. They originally said "definitely before Thanksgiving!" but rumors were spreading and tips were rolling in that Thanksgiving itself would be their official opening date, something they themselves confirmed in a Facebook comment last Friday, "Opening Thanksgiving Day! We'll be open until 2pm.".
However, it seems they moved the opening date up, and some big name guests were in attendance at this morning's opening, including U.S. Senator Carl Levin.
According to MLive, "DIB open is set to open on Thursday for the annual Thanksgiving Day parade, and will be open daily starting Friday from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. The restaurant offers 10 types of bagels, sandwiches, Anthology coffee roasted in Corktown, and WiFi."
