It was a long and difficult process, but Detroit City Distillery is now well on its way to becoming the next Eastern Market district hot spot now that they have been officially approved by the city of Detroit.
They gleefully posted a status and picture to their Facebook page late Friday, and they commented on the process throughout the weekend. While rightly excited, they made it clear that the process with the city was anything but streamlined; "Thanks everyone, it is a significant accomplishment. It took over 5 months for the city to complete its review and then we had to be approved through two public hearing[s]."
In response to the question of when they are actually going to open, Detroit City Distillery made it clear that the approval process is still ongoing, but that they now needed it from the State, but that they're also working on converting the space (originally a slaughterhouse) into something they can be proud of. As for that opening date? They're aiming for Spring of 2014.
